can i come in?

isn't this santa monica midcentury modern home just ideal? i love the mellow blend of clean lines and natural textures and shades. this type of warm collectedness is exactly what i'm loving right now.

all the woods just look perfect together, even though they're not perfectly matched or coordinated. and the way the outside of the home blends in through the sheets of glass for windows is just impeccable.

and don't you just want to pull up a fabulous midcentury chair for a summer or fall afternoon?

writing on the wall

isn't this such a special, different idea? it's an inscribed glass shower enclosure, found in a home by swiss architects felber szèlpal architekten. yes please!

if i were to have a shower like this, i know exactly what i'd want inscribed. it's an apache blessing that i first discovered through the jewelry of jeanine payer, which you might remember from a post i did a while back. here is what it says:

may the sun bring you new energy by day
may the moon softly restore you by night
may the rain wash away your worries
may the breeze blow new strength into your being
may you walk gently through the world and know its beauty all the days of your life

wouldn't that be a nice sentiment to begin and end your days with? in connection to the idea of beautiful bathrooms, to me this tops the list. what would yours say?

mod love

i could try and find words to explain all the reasons i love this washington state house. but really, why? just look at it.

although i personally think the furnishings and decor could use some warmth and variation on style, the architecture and materials of this house are, to me, a dream. the footprint is still original from the 1950's and was redesigned by bohlin cywinski jackson to relate to its natural surroundings and i think it does that in the most stunning ways.

i'll tell you this - i am a sucker for house designs that blend concrete and stone and glass and teak and fir. gets me every time.
