high/low...suzani pillows

do you remember my obsession with suzani? well it's still alive and well. i LOVE it. i totally want a few suzani pillows to mix in with my already eclectic throw pillow collection and there's something endlessly lovely about having a piece made from a vintage fabric that bears so much historical and ornamental significance...but i don't have $350 to spend on a pillow this decade. if you do, peruse here and email me every gorgeous, saturated, luxe detail you find. in the meantime...

here are some vintage suzani pillows from the fab jayson home and garden. they're $195 - $350 and each is unique. 

and then here are some pillows i found at land of nod, in keeping with my love for childrens' store for cheaper versions of grown-up decor concepts. these range from $29 to $39, and while they're certainly not the same, in combination with each other and with other throw pillows, for me they achieve a similar impact.

what do you think? you see it, or do you think i'm nuts?

woven light

there's something really lovely about light coming through woven materials. i love the burlap/linen types as well as the wider, woodier thatched styles and i've been contemplating their use a lot recently. i think they're a really earthy alternative to a chandelier, but the earthiness itself can be a certain kind of elegance.

 

i especially enjoy when the woven material is juxtaposed with a luxe one, like this high-shine silver base or this mercury glass one. similarly, i'd love to see a woven piece like this in an otherwise modern space...it would ground it and soften the edges, don't you think?

this one is my favorite one of all, though. wouldn't a nicely-spaced row of them look amazing in so many settings?

from the country

hi lovelies. you know those days where you just can't quite get it together? today is one of them for me. i traveled all weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the amazing catskills and one of my favorites places on earth...and on the way home, we stopped at a dirt-cheap farmstand where i got a veritable bevvy of things for next to nothing, my fear of produce pressure be damned. i have to tend to them all tonight...washing, prepping, cooking, cutting, repotting, etc. i don't know how i'll also unpack and tidy up, but it all needs to get done so it will. you know when the only reason you know someone will get done is because it has to? that's where i am.

here's what i got:

-box of apricots

-box of shallots

-box of shitake mushrooms

-box of oyster mushrooms

-scallions

-green lettuce

-romaine hearts

-block of cheddar cheese

-bunch of radishes (going to try them in salads - any pointers?)

-8 or 9 four-cell packs of pansies, petunias, phlox and some other pretty flowers for my balcony and another special planting project i'll share next week

grand total? $30. i love the catskills.

how totally special is this hummingbird feeder? is it not the most festive you've ever seen? i'm smitten. last summer, i saw a hummingbird in the flesh for the first time, so this year i mixed up some sugar water with red food coloring, and although i haven't seen any yet, the red red red sugar water is diminishing one tiny sip at a time...

how fun would this hummingbird chandelier be in a spot that gets plenty of sunlight to make it sparkle and shine? it would also be a showstopping gift to a new homeowner or a summer hostess which means a plum spot at the beach or a return invitation.

do you die over most everything from BHLDN like i do? I DIE. it hurts, much like walking into anthropologie does. on one hand, bhldn sort of packs up the vintage chic thing into almost too neat a lace-and-typography package, makes it too attainable and spot on, and it makes it seem a little ubiquitous, which is the precise moment a wedding trend jumps the shark and becomes boring. but it does it so beautifully, it's forgiven, and mixed in with one's own style and flair, it could be wonderful and charming.

and i thought i was bored of coverups and boleros until i saw these. and are you kidding me with this duchess lace cape?

but there's been some uproar about one of their boleros, among other things...

there seems to be a pervading feeling that they've stolen designs directly from small, independent designers. so disappointing, don't you think so? apparently this has been going on for some time, which i hate to see since i love anthro and urban so much. and at least on man shops globe, they seemed to give credit where credit was due...

do you think this is terrible and anti-artist, or do you think it's the way the world works and the blogosphere has just noticed it in this case? i really want to hear the thoughts of consumers, designers, buyers and business people alike...this must be happening every minute all over the place.

since most couples' engagement stories are a bit of a blur, i love the idea of taking engagement photos where the magic happened, like this couple featured on bwed. cute!
