be cheesy!

as holiday entertaining starts to festively occupy my mental space, i find myself thinking about great strategies. one of these is to buy cheese at a place like murray's or any good cheesemonger since you can get several varieties in quantities that make sense for the size crowd you have, and not end up with tons left over -- extra cheese can be a hazard to many, myself included.

besides, in a way, it's way more party-like to have 7-10 different cheese (makes for lots of fun tasting and pairing) than to have only 2 or 3. buying them by the quarter pound or even eighth of a pound allows you to do that. what's also nice about buying them at a cheesemonger is that they can make great recommendations, and you can usually taste before you buy -- a great way to avoid buying something you don't like, and to have a little snack while you're grocery shopping. sounds delicious, doesn't it?

  1. Folks in NY should check out East Village Cheese. You can't get tastes, but you do get Murray's Cheeses at more than half off. It's the best! http://nymag.com/listings/stores/east_village_cheese/
